Wall of Kindness: From Immediate Relief to Sustainable Empowerment

The Wall of Kindness initiative was developed in Tehran's Naziabad neighborhood to rethink the way public and charitable support is delivered. The main challenge was that traditional forms of aid, while helpful in meeting immediate needs, could not on their own break the cycle of poverty.

As a first step, the Wall of Kindness was introduced as a simple and accessible way for people to donate usable clothing and other items directly to those in need. This approach made access to support easier and created a more direct connection between donors and recipients.

Moving Beyond Short-Term Aid

However, the initiative was not limited to short-term assistance. The broader approach focused on more sustainable solutions such as crowdfunding, microloans, and job creation, with the aim of turning public support into opportunities for income generation and greater economic independence.

Through crowdfunding, small contributions from a large number of people could be combined to support specific needs or local business initiatives. Microloans could also provide individuals with the initial resources needed to start or expand income-generating activities.

Employment as a Path to Independence

The most important part of this approach was job creation. Financial and material assistance can reduce immediate pressure, but sustainable income can help individuals gradually reduce their dependence on continued aid.

In this model, the Wall of Kindness was not seen as the final solution, but as the starting point of a broader pathway toward empowerment:

The main objective was to transform charity from a temporary form of assistance into a more sustainable process that strengthens economic capacity, supports self-reliance, and reduces long-term dependency.
